DOOR CONSTRUCTION    Jump to Installation

The Heavy Duty DOOR construction  is superior to any other fiberglass Door on the market.

The doors finish is made with a gray custom blended sandable type of gellcoat. Designed exclusively for superior paint adhesion.  The micro pores in this gellcoat are easily sanded and powder off just like a high quality primer which allows for good primer adhesion.  Make sure your next fiberglass part(s) come with a sanding type gellcoat, Standard gellcoats are not designed to be painted and offer poor paint adhesion qualities.

Coremat® is hand laid in it proper location.  This core material reduces the amount of "print thru" which could eventually appear on the surface.  Next, another layer of fiberglass is applied by machine then hand rolled again to insure consistency.  The final coat is a superior grade of fiberglass mat - which is laid in by had and wet out by machine.

The door's inner liner is manufactured with the same care and concern as the hoods outer skin.  Aluminum plates are used in the hinge area.  The entire inner liner is smooth, gellcoated and ready to be primed and painted.

These 2 panels are then assembled in our jigs an left at least 16 hours to cure.

These methods of manufacturing  produce a far superior product  compared to others in this industry.

DOOR INSTALLATION

Installing New Heavy Duty fiberglass doors can be both rewarding and frustrating.  (If not familiar with basic hand tools).

Doors arrive as a basic shell - with no mechanism, glass, tracks or hardware.  The blank shell generally has the window blanked in solid and all holes are closed.  We recommend  cutting the window blanks out , leaving 1/8" all the way around.  This remainder can be sanded to the proper opening size, while fitting the felt.

Regulator , Latch, Handle & Window tracks, must be removed from the original door (often the tracks are spot welded and need to be drilled fro removal).  The door is hollow in the post area so that the upper felt can be epoxyed in place.  We recommend waxing the back side of the felt for easier removal in the future.  The lower wiper felts can be easily installed by epoxying small block on the doors interior edge, to attach to.  We recommend several #3 phillips flat head screws - no more that 1/2" long.

Make sure you trial fit your window and regulator mechanism , while opening the holes, to ensure the proper size. (Do not open too far).  Some elongation may be necessary for proper fit.

You may need to sand the edges for proper gap - Glass doors usually require a gap just slightly larger than stock.

Once finished with the first door - the second should take less than 1/3 the time - now that the process is familiar.  These doors could last the life of the vehicle and are permanently RUST FREE.

Please note - Fiberglass doors are not approved or crash tested  - therefore we make no claims to safety or impact resistance of these products.  We intend them to be used for show purposes only - Use at Your Own Rick.  Safety is solely the responsibility of the installer.
