Light Weight Hoods & Trunk Lids |
|
Heavy Duty hoods & trunk
lids are constructed by two different methods. 2) Full Frame Technology (TECHHOODS©): where the High tech design of the inner liner fully supports the outer skin, providing a show worthy inner structure which is smooth, strong and ready for prep and paint. The weight of these hoods is generally 40# to 60#, depending on size and model. These hoods are extremely strong and straight. They will use the existing hinge and latch. These components can be identified by the beginning letter of their part number begins "T" as in TCEH-11. Note ( The 67-81 Firebird model requires the original striker plate be removed from the original hood and reinstalled in the fiberglass model)

Light Weight hoods
and trunk lids are solely designed for applications where weight reduction is an
important factor for competition and winning is the #1 goal.
The Pin-on design does not utilize either the hinge or latch, but requires the use of
fasteners on all four side of the component. These parts are fully braced for
lift off use with a 9# high density foam. Which is then fiberglassed
over. Most, not all, light weight hoods weigh any where from 15# to 20# depending on size and model. Trunk lids weigh approximately 8# to 15# depending on size and model. On average U.S. BODY Light Weight components will scale in a few pounds heavier than competition parts made by others - however we feel that by adding a little more material that your parts will maintain their fit and shape 2 to 3 times longer. Our exclusive manufacturing techniques utilize a combination of both machine and "hand laid" materials. This combination of mat, cloth and high density foam provides what we feel to be the strongest part available today. |
Light Weight Fenders |
|
| Heavy Duty Fenders
are more complete than the light weight version in that this style fender weighs more and
has most all of the original attaching points provided (Not pre-opened) A hinge type
hood can be used with these fenders, However we do strongly suggest a light weight
fiberglass hood be used on vehicles whose hood hinges bolt directly to the inner portion
of the fender. Steel hoods can be used with the fiberglass reproduction fenders for Ford, Chrysler and most Trucks whose hoods hinge off of the firewall or wheel well. (Not the fender). The inner finish of these fenders is coated with a black lacquer. These fenders weight moderately more than the Light weight counterpart. |
Light Weight fenders are designed strictly for competition use. There are NO hood hinge provision and only a few mounting locations. This competition type fender can only be used with a lift-off, light weight hood. These fenders have a black lacquer inner finish and weigh approximately 10# to 15# depending on model. |
Light Weight Doors |
|
| Heavy Duty doors
are designed for show vehicles where original "good " condition metal parts are
no longer available. Installation is quite involved, due to the fact that none of
the mounting locations or window blanks are pre-opened or pre-drilled. These doors DO NOT include seals, tracks or regulators ie.."guts". Once installed these doors should provide a lifetime of show to show service without ever having to worry about rust. Doors can weigh anywhere from 25# to 45# depending on the model. |
Light weight doors
are intended for serious competition use only, where winning is the #1 goal. These
doors will use your existing hinge (less detent spring) and latch. These doors DO
NOT include seals, tracks or regulators ie.."guts" & require the use of
Lexan windows (Not supplied). OD washers or a aluminum backing plate, inside of the
hinge attach point is required to sandwich the door for proper pressure
disbursement. These doors weigh approximately 15# to 25# depending on make and model - however, the majority of this weight is located in the inside panel, which can be removed and replaced with a lite sheet of aluminum, to reduce the weight. A top window strap may also be required for safety at high speeds. |
Light Weight Front Ends |
|
| Heavy
Duty Tilt Front Ends come complete with a hinge kit. Units designated as "One
Piece Front Ends" DO NOT come with a Hinge kit. The Grey exterior gellcoat
finish can be easily sanded and prepared for finishing. These units have a smooth 90°
roll into the wheel well openings and it generally extends in a full ¾". Headlight blanks often require opening to install the light bowl and trim. The units do come with mold flashing - which must be sanded and fared in before preparing for paint. Unless its a Pre-Split model, Tilt Front Ends do need the rear fender panel cut in order to utilize the hinge kit supplied. The interior finish is Fiberglass texture - coated in black lacquer - it comes without wheel wells. These unit generally only weigh between 50# to 80# +/- .

Light
Weight Front ends are intended for racing applications and do not come with a
hinge kit. The Grey exterior gellcoat finish can be easily sanded and prepared for
finishing. These units have a smooth 90° roll into the wheel well openings and it generally extends in a full ¾". Headlight blanks often require opening to install the light bowl and trim. The units do come with mold flashing - which must be sanded and fared in before preparing for paint. These unit generally only weigh in at approx 30# +/- . IMPORTANT - Please specify the type of racing that the unit will be used for, so we may build and reinforce your unit accordingly. Units manufactured for "Street Racing" have a heavier roving on all edges to reduce the chance of tearing (under to stress of impact) and usually weigh 10 - 15# more than a Drag Racing unit. Units manufactured for "Sand Drag" or "Baja" style racing are built so as to be midway between the Street Drag and the Street Race units. |
Light Weight Bodies & Cabs |
|
| Heavy
Duty Bodies & Cabs are manufactured as straight as
possible. Our bodies are manufactured from extremely complex molds -
which produce a rigid one piece unit. The floor, roof, quarters & firewall are
generally stiffened with the use of internal ribbing. In addition, your all new
glass body can be made heavier or lighter (within reason) depending on your
application. Average body or cab weight is anywhere from 125# to 600#'
depending on make and model. Our bodies are manufactured from extremely complex molds
- which produce a rigid one piece unit. The floor, roof, quarters & firewall are
generally stiffened with the use of internal ribbing. As far as body work, you
need to scuff off the mold flashing - block sand - prime and paint. The great part about owning a rigid glass body - is that you'll never
have to worry about rust . Once you apply your paint scheme that's it - just wash
and wax. Installation takes time!! Whether you are installing just the body or an entire package, the bodies must be through bolted to your original frame. For more detailed information please check out the truck cab install link here - Click for Cab Installation - While we understand that your project may or may not be a truck, the basics of installation ARE the same.

When
building a race vehicle you obviously want it as light light as possible. So you cut out the floor pan -
wheel wells & inner structure.....So as far as the body all you are left with is an
overweight, floppy shell held together with old factory spot welds and body lead.
Our bodies are manufactured from extremely complex molds - which produce a rigid
one piece unit. The roof, quarters & firewall are generally stiffened with the
use of internal ribbing. Light Weight bodies and cabs have NO floor or
interior panels, windows come blanked in. These bodies are designed for competition
use only. Glass bodies & cabs can be made heavier or lighter (within reason)
depending on your application. Average body weight is anywhere from 40# to
120# depending on make and model. Installation is a snap! Whether you are installing just the body or an entire package, the bodies attach at the rocker panels, tail pan, trunk jam, door jam, and front and rear window jams.
